Here’s my Q/A with Frank Franklin himself:

Briefly introduce yourself, and your band if you play with one.
I’m Frank Franklin, and I play folk/acoustic, sometimes bluesy kind of music. I was born in London and I now live in sunny Cornwall in the UK, I’ve lived there around 12 years (half of my life) now and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I don’t have a band at the moment but it is a consideration of mine.

In no particular order, list your top ten inspirations, even if they’re not musical.
Wow, top 10? Let me think, okay in no particular order. Ralph Mctell, Robert Johnson, Simon and Garfunkel, The Carpenters, Bob Marley, Ray Charles, Eric Bibb, my parents have inspired me a lot with music choices, so they deserve a mention. I’d say the last one would be life in general (that sounds a bit lame) But yeah, life.

What are your thoughts on the current status of the music industry?
I think the music industry at the moment is very focused on either pop music or R&B or rap, it’s rare for artists with real instruments singing real songs to be noticed these days, which is a great shame. I think the 60s, 70s and 80s were great decades for music.

Are you signed to a label? What are your thoughts on that?
I am not currently signed to a label, I do everything myself, sometimes with the help of friend or family, it can get tedious but I do enjoy it.

What would you hope people think about when they hear your music?
I don’t know really, I’d like them to think about good things, of course. I don’t know I think I’d probably just hope that they’d they feel the emotion that I felt when writing it. Maybe make them look at things in a different way, not take everything at face value and things like that, my songs often have hidden messages or are metaphors, I’d like to think people hear them that way.

Have you ever bought an album for its cover? Which one?
I’ve never bought an album solely on the cover but I think my favourite record cover is Robert Johnson- King of the Delta Blues Singers

What’s one place/venue in the world you’ve always wanted to play?
Any venue is good enough for me! But if I could chose a dream venue it would probably be Exeter Cathedral, I saw Laura Marling play there, she was great and the whole atmosphere was pretty powerful. So yeah I’d love to play there.

Who inspired you to sing?
I think it was probably my father. He’s been a singer songwriter for as long as I can remember and influenced me greatly as a singer/musician

What’s your least favorite thing about being an artist?
I don’t really have a least favourite thing.

What’s your most favorite thing about being an artist?
Most favourite thing, probably getting feedback about my music and positive feedback, just to know somebody likes your music is a really good feeling

In your opinion, what’s the best way for an artist to make $ these days?
Well, in my opinion, turn to electronic music, that seems to be where the money is for amateurs these days.

If you could go back and change anything in your career, what would it be?
Nothing, I’m pretty new to the music scene so at the moment I don’t want to change anything and hopefully I never will!

Do you feel like you sell more music online or at shows?
At the moment my music is only available online, so online!

How do you feel about the new “facebook timeline”?
Mixed feelings, I can’t work out if I like it, I think in some ways my musician’s profile is better and easier to navigate. But my personal profile, I think I preferred to old Facebook layout, why they can’t leave anything as it is!

If you could interview any musical celebrity, alive or dead, who would it be?
I would have a job interviewing him but definitely Robert Johnson

What’s the first concert you ever saw?
I think it was Less Than Jake, the punk rock band…I was young

Any advice to up and coming bands?
Well I’m pretty new myself but I’d just say, keep it up and get your music heard online, it’s the best place for it as you can gain interest from all over the world.

Do you play in the band for a living?
I’m currently in the process of booking shows for over the summer. I’m actually a university student, so the summer months are the only time I’m ‘truly’ free.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “U.S.A.”?
Obama

Random question- Who do you think would win in a fight: Cher or Michelle Obama?
Oh that is a tough one, Cher seems like a strong woman but then again Michelle is married to the president so she must be pretty strong. I’m gonna say Cher, she could blow her away with her voice!

Special thanks to FF for his time :)
