Polly & Crackers is a legit brand of slightly inappropriate shirts based on the Eastern shore of NC, who mixes random and blunt humor with high quality, fitted shirts. 

Striving not to be “just another tee company”, P&C aims to be more of a CULTURE by regularly donating profits to charities that deal with world hunger, environmental sustainability, and education for independent thinking.

I really dig that these guys are a green company that takes pride in social responsibility.

Anyone who’s bio reads: “People are getting tired of the Nickelback’s of the world..” immediately deserves a hi-ten.  Canadian-trio “The Daily Hate” served my ear reeeeeal good stuff this morning with their refreshing and fun blend of rock and ska, sounding similar to a blend of Sublime and Panic at the Disco.

I really dig the drumming, and the lyrics.  This doesn’t mean the guitars and bass don’t do the song justice- I’m just a sucker for a good snare sound, and lyrics that aren’t completely soul-less.  

Their style somewhat reminds me of Jet, and maybe pulling a little bit from older Incubus, or 311’s Self-Titled sound.  But more raw, and actually more believable.  And wayyy more fun.. let’s just put it this way: If you don’t like this band, then F*CK YOU!

Nate Reuss, lead vocalist of NYC-based trio, Fun., is now one of my all-time artistic heroes.  His previous band The Format, announced their hiatus on February 4th 2008, and the reasoning made perfect sense, after reading this very lengthy blog.

The ‘big brother’ record label, once again, stepped on the wrong creative toes.  The band knew all along that they were going to create this ambitious and electrifying ‘blessing in disguise’, all on their own terms, with no hands in their pockets. 

Cheers to holding-strong to their 6-year quest, and bring these ideas to fruition.  I give them props for staying true to their integrity, and I truly praise this second effort from the band.  I bet it feels good for them to see the album behind them.  

Serving as a declaration that independence shines bright, Some Nights is destined to inspire other artists to realize their ability to write/record whatever they want, following Fun.’s example; the only exception being a ‘succumbing to pressures’ and signing onto controlling record labels that tweak the music to sell more singles. (cue middle finger)

The 10-track album is cohesive, I still need to figure it out a little more though.  The single “We Are Young” has such a timeless, catchy melody, I can’t get it out of my head. The music video is great too (@ 23million views!).  

The first couple times I spun the album, I noticed that towards the end, my A.D.D. takes over, once again, and I [cough cough] zone out on something else.. is the first-half of the album stronger than the second-half?  Mayyyybe.

I gotta say though, this is a solid f*cking record.  Here’s a link to download it for free, if you are into that kind of thing.
