25-year old, Calgary-based multi-instrumental artist Kyley Styles has a story to tell.

Upon reading his bio, I came to learn that he is no amateur to the music business and he’s been playing in bands since he was a kid.  We got a good taste of his sense of humor via this quote we found on his Facebook page

“I didn’t work a year on these tracks for nothing. They explain who I was at many different points in my life. These songs have grown from nothing before my very eyes. If you don’t like them, Well… I don’t like you! I’m just kidding. Buy my album please?”

Like Kyley Styles on Facebook. (Because I did!)

Also, Follow Kyley on Twitter, and check out his YouTube channel.

(My Q/A interview with Kyley will be posted very soon!)

Progressive-punk band Thirsty!, a group associated with legends such as Rancid and Youth of Today, are currently promoting the release of their newest 7-track EP:  Everything We Learned.
The album is driven by classic, octive-rich melodies and pounding beats. Sentimental, driven, and ’90s-punk-inspired, these guys are like a strange musical-batch of bands brewed together such as Hot Water Music, Propaghandhi, Sunny Day Real Estate, with a touch of Poison the Well.

The straight-forward and energetic music of KEI-SHON-SON is an impressive “Retro” type of rap flow, and every single song is a complete musical experience.

This aggressive form of music creates a one of a kind sound-scape, which is a perfect ground for the vocals to hit sharp and punctual, with heartfelt and smart lyrics about life, and real stories about Work and Love.

Whisker-A-NoGo ’ALBUM OF THE WEEK’ contributor: Mike McGill from INDIANS.

Ready, aaaaaaaaaand, go!
* * *

MM: I’m reviewing ___el ten eleven_(album name)_ by  __el ten eleven_(band name)__.

[How did you hear about the band/what was your first impression?]

MM: They sound like a mix between tortoise & the whitest boy alive__had a beautiful trippy baby.
Check out their official website here

MM: My favorite thing about the band is their writing. Super creative and full enough to be a 4 piece with the plethora of sound they create with a few looper pedals, some delay and octave decided. The kicker is, it’s only two dudes! A double necked bass/guitar and a drummer with a live kit and a keyboard on the side. The first self titled record is great from start to finish. One of my favorites in recent history, hands down.

MM: On a scale from 1-10:
Vocals: n/a (instrumental band:)
Musicianship: 10
Lyrics: n/a
Production: 9
Creativity: 10
Lasting Value: 10
Final Verdict: 10/10

I’d like to thank INDIANS for being rad.. and particularly Mike McGill for his contribution.  Like the band on Facebook and enjoy more music and videos!!

West Palm Beach, Florida-based indie rockers LAVOLA have had my mind spinning around all morning with their tasteful blend of energetic pop-rock with spacey, experimental and ambient alternatives.

Their sound reminds me of a [solid] combination of Minus the Bear, Sufjan Stevens, and at certain times in their 6-track EP Leaving Paris, they even reminded me of At The Drive-In.

The band is offering their new EP for download on their Bandcamp page!  I think that calls for a reason to like the band on Facebook and follow the band on Twitter.

My rating:  8.9/10

*(Hopefully I’ll be able to arrange an interview with the band.. stay tuned for that!)

I really enjoyed this new music video from Sean Cooney.  His new 16-track album ‘The Last Thing I Heard Before The Zombie Apocalypse’ is quite unique and original!

Get it on iTunes here.  Also, check out Sean’s ReverbNation profile.

The lovechild of David Bowie and Katy Perry ran away from home, met up with T-Pain in Miami, moved to Brooklyn to lay down one of the most ridiculous party albums known to man.

Cooney, a DC native now living in NYC, attended AMDA to study for Broadway shows and has also played in many professional Jazz bands. His trained voice seems even more at home belting out pop songs as he employs it’s crystal clear, cut through quality in wonderfully innovative ways. Sometimes notching it down a few octaves to fulfill the role of hype master Lil John, other times crooning like a pop hungry Jason Mraz.

My rating: 8.2/10

I really enjoyed listening to this album that Sierra Hurtt passed along to me this morning.. Check out the 12 tracks feel-good, blues-inspired folk-pop on her bandcamp page.  This is one of the best and most soulful female voices you’ll ever hear!

I had the opportunity to interview Sierra today, here’s our Q/A:

Briefly introduce yourself, and your band members.

My band is amorphous, with members in 3 countries. In the U.S., I usually have Dan Bacon on bass guitar, Sam McIlvain on lead guitar, Russell Gellman on Drums and John Stenger on keyboards. All of these guys are based in Philadelphia. When I am in Portugal, Dan comes with me, and we hook up with Rui Costa (guitar) and Pedro Santos (keys, horns, percussion) to form something I call The Portudelphia Project.
